2nd Test: South Africa crush Bangladesh to sweep series | Cricket News

South Africa dominated Bangladesh with a crushing innings and 273-run victory, completing a 2-0 series sweep. The match was wrapped up on day three of the second Test in Chittagong after the Proteas enforced the follow-on and bowled out the hosts for just 143.
Kagiso Rabada was instrumental in dismantling Bangladesh’s first innings, claiming five wickets to help South Africa dismiss them for 159. This gave the visitors a significant 416-run lead.
Asked to bat again, Bangladesh faced more woes with Keshav Maharaj taking 5-59 and Senuran Muthusamy chipping in with 4-45, causing a familiar collapse for the hosts.
The day witnessed the fall of sixteen Bangladeshi wickets at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
In the first innings, Rabada claimed key wickets including Najmul Hossain Shanto for nine and Mehidy Hasan Miraz for one, ultimately finishing with figures of 5-37. Dane Paterson also contributed by removing Mushfiqur Rahim for a duck.
Starting the day at 38-4, Bangladesh attempted a recovery from 48-8 with Mominul Haque scoring 82. His effort ended shortly after lunch when Muthusamy dismissed him, breaking a determined 103-run stand with Taijul Islam.
Taijul Islam, after a fighting 30, eventually fell to Maharaj, ending Bangladesh’s first innings resistance.
In their second innings, South Africa maintained their aggressive approach, ensuring a swift victory within three days. Despite some resilience from Shanto, who scored 36, Ankon with 29, and a late effort by Hasan Mahmud, unbeaten on 38, Bangladesh could not avert an innings defeat.
South Africa will now focus on bolstering their chances for the World Test Championship final next year with upcoming series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan at home starting in late November.
