AI Enhances Pharmacovigilance and Drug Safety, ET HealthWorld
Bhopal: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) offers the potential to significantly reduce the time needed to identify adverse drug reactions. This faster identification allows for quicker responses, resulting in safer drug prescribing and improved health outcomes for patients.
Professor and head of the department of pharmacology at AIIMS Bhopal, Dr Balakrishnan S discussed the use of AI in pharmacovigilance at the 2024 NAPT conference and explained how AI can improve patient safety by speeding up the identification of adverse drug reactions (ADRs), leading to better prescribing practices. The conference — the third annual meeting of the National Association of Pharmacology and Therapeutics (NAPT) — took place last week at AIIMS Nagpur. Dr Balakrishnan led a plenary session focusing on emerging trends in signal detection within pharmacovigilance.
The session explored the latest methodologies in signal detection for identifying ADRs. This is a crucial aspect of pharmacovigilance. Identifying ADRs ensures patient safety. Dr Balakrishnan’s presentation highlighted these advancements in the field.
