Mystery Explosion in Boisar Injures 6, Including Family of 4 | Mumbai News
Mumbai: A powerful explosion rocked a chawl in Boisar on Wednesday night, leaving six people injured, including four family members. The blast caused extensive damage to walls and created structural cracks in nearby houses. The impact was severe enough to break window panes in surrounding areas.
According to the Boisar-MIDC police, the source of the explosion remains unknown. Around 11 pm, a loud sound was heard in the busy lanes of Dube chawl in Awadh Nagar in Saravali, causing widespread panic. The explosion started in one room, where four occupants, including two children, were hurt. Two victims, including a girl, are being treated at a hospital and are in stable condition. The remaining four were discharged.
Fire brigade personnel are checking electrical connections and gas lines to determine potential causes. They are checking if the explosion was caused by gas cylinders or refrigerators.
In the backdrop of elections, an Anti-Terrorism Squad team and dog squad conducted inspections on Thursday. Police are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to track any suspicious activities prior to the incident. an initial probe ruled out presence of explosive material or illegal substances in the room. A forensic team collected samples from the site for detailed analysis.
Palghar MP Dr Hemant Savara visited the site and confirmed the cause of the explosion as ‘unknown’. Residents sought state compensation for their damaged homes. Police said an accidental case has been filed and the fire brigade report is awaited to establish cause of the explosion. The police recorded statements of neighbours and witnesses to piece together sequence of events leading to the explosion.
