Abhishek Bachchan opens up about embracing a potbelly in ‘I Want To Talk’ and skipping abs in ‘Dhoom’ | Hindi Movie News
Abhishek Bachchan is basking in the success of Shoojit Sircar’s ‘I Want To Talk‘, a slice-of-life film that has caught everyone’s attention, especially for his surprising physical transformation. Recently, the actor shared why he embraced a potbellied look for the movie, contrasting it with his decision not to flaunt abs in ‘Dhoom‘.
In a conversation with Galatta Plus, Abhishek admitted that vanity often plays a big role in cinema, but it’s precisely his ability to let go of that vanity that attracted Shoojit Sircar to cast him. Reflecting on past roles in films like ‘Guru’, ‘The Big Bull’, and ‘Bob Biswas’, he shared that he had no hesitation in portraying characters with a larger physique. “If the role demands it, why not?” he said, recalling how he instantly agreed when Sircar asked him to sport a potbelly for the role.

Abhishek explained that his decision stemmed from the character’s requirements and his trust in Sircar’s vision. He pointed out the difference in approach between his potbellied looks in ‘I Want To Talk’ and ‘Guru’ versus his portrayal in ‘Dhoom’. “ACP Jai Dixit is a tough, no-nonsense character who doesn’t need to take off his shirt to assert his authority. That’s not who he is. At most, he’d wear a vest,” he explained. “I have to believe in the character’s reasoning to portray it convincingly.”
He also discussed a scene in ‘I Want To Talk’ where he appeared in just underwear. When Sircar asked if he was comfortable, Abhishek confidently agreed, reasoning that such a casual look felt natural for the character. He emphasized the importance of authenticity, saying, “It’s something relatable; it fits the situation.” Directed by Shoojit Sircar, I Want To Talk hit theaters on November 22, 2024, and features Pearle Dey, Ahilya Bambroo, Jayant Kripalani, Kristin Goddard, and Johnny Lever in key roles. The film continues to draw audiences with its heartfelt narrative.
