Amar Kaushik: "My Mother Told Me Mythological Stories" | Hindi Movie News

Director Amar Kaushik is riding high on the success of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer Stree 2, which has become the biggest hit of the year and the fifth-biggest hit in Indian cinema history. In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the director shared his thoughts on the film’s phenomenal success. He said,“I will give the credit to the audience for the way they loved it and made it their own. We, as filmmakers, always aim to create a good film, and box office success is just a reflection of people’s love. I was entrusted with the responsibility of Stree 2, and I tried to do my best. In the future as well, I will continue to give my best to serve the audience.”

While many expected Amar to announce the second installment of Bhediya with Varun Dhawan or perhaps Stree 3 as his next film, he surprised everyone by revealing his upcoming project with Vicky Kaushal titled Mahavatar. The film is based on the life of Chiranjeevi Lord Parashurama, who is revered as the eternal warrior of dharma. Mahavatar is slated for a Christmas 2026 release.
Talking about how the film came into being, Amar said,“I’ve always wanted to explore different genres, and mythology is something that has fascinated me since childhood. My mother used to tell me mythological stories, and I would imagine how those events might have unfolded. Now that I’m in the film industry, and fortunately, some of my films have been successful, I have the support of my producers. I’ve learned a lot about VFX and storytelling, and this project feels like both a responsibility and a challenge. I think I work best when faced with a challenge.”

“Before returning to those projects, I wanted to try something different, and that’s how Mahavatar came about.”
