Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi‘s film ‘Munna Bhai MBBS‘ is celebrated for its humor, with Arshad revealing that many of the jokes were improvised by him. Interestingly, he noted that “most assistants” did not find them funny at the time. Arshad’s improvisation played a significant role in shaping his character, Circuit.
Talking to Mashable India, Arshad admitted that he doesn’t watch much of his work but occasionally finds it great and funny. He revealed that most of his performance in ‘Munna Bhai MBBS ‘ was improvised.
The actor recalled a memorable scene from ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, where he kidnaps a foreigner in his medical van. He shared that the original joke was, “Do you want to meet Madhuri Dixit? She is sitting in the van. She looks super,” but the crew found it unsuitable. Instead, they opted for the “poor hungry people” joke, which was improvised on the spot.
Warsi pointed out that writing a script in a comfortable room is very different from creating on set, where real situations and people can change the story. He praised director Rajkumar Hirani for letting him improvise. For example, when he had to work with a 6-foot junior artist, he joked, “Yeh 6 foot ka hai, isey mai 2-2 feet ka teen bana dunga.”
‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, directed by Rajkumar Hirani and released in 2003, follows gangster Munna Bhai, who pretends to be a medical student to fulfill his father’s dream. The film, featuring Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, blends humor with heartfelt themes, becoming a beloved classic in Bollywood cinema.
