Australia's Steve Smith picks Rohit Sharma as opener for his World Test XI, says he is so... | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Australia’s batting maestro Steve Smith has picked Team India skipper Rohit Sharma as the opener in his World Test XI, praising the Indian captain for his aggressive style and ability to dominate bowlers.
Speaking to Fox Cricket, Smith shared how Rohit’s attacking approach and adaptability make him a nightmare for bowlers.
“He is so dangerous, takes the game on with the new ball,” Smith said. “He plays his shots but also has solid defence when the situation demands it. He puts the bowler under a lot of pressure.”

Smith’s comments come at a time when Rohit has lost two back-to-back games at the hands of New Zealand as India suffered first Test series defeat on home soil in 12 years.
However, he is gearing up to lead India in the highly anticipated five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, set to begin on November 22 in Perth.
The 18-member squad announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) features several fresh faces but also has key omissions due to injury concerns.
Among the most notable absences is Mohammed Shami, who has been sidelined due to swelling in his knee during rehab from an ankle surgery.
Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav will also miss the tour as he seeks long-term treatment for a persistent groin issue at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.
After the appalling and unexpected results in the New Zealand series, the tour of Australia will test Rohit Sharma’s leadership and batting skills, as he looks to prove Smith’s faith in him and maintain India’s recent dominance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
