CBSE withdraws affiliation of 21 schools, downgrades six others in Delhi, Rajasthan

Six schools in Delhi and Rajasthan were downgraded from Senior Secondary to Secondary level, while the affiliation of 21 others was withdrawn due to significant numbers of non-attending students from classes 9 to 11, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said.

The decision came after a series of surprise inspections in 27 schools affiliated with the board.

The objective behind these inspections was to ascertain that the schools affiliated with CBSE operated in compliance with the norms of regular attendance of students based on the Affiliation and Examination Bye-Laws.

Dummy and non-attending schools undermine educational integrity, the CBSE said and issued show cause notices to schools, allowing 30 days to respond.

The respective schools were communicated through a report about the vital observations of the surprise inspection committees concerning the irregularities observed during the inspections. Later on, the replies submitted by the respective schools were examined in detail.

In its press release, the CBSE noted the practice of dummy/non-attending admissions “contradicts the core mission of school education, compromising students’ foundational growth.”

To address such an issue, the board is taking decisive actions to combat the proliferation of dummy schools. It wishes to send a clear message to all affiliated institutions to “resist the lure of accepting dummy or non-attending admissions.”

“The board will continuously strive to ensure that schools adhere to lawful and ethical educational practices,” it added.
