It is difficult to mount a woman led film post pandemic: Vidya Balan- Exclusive
After delivering films like ‘Ishqiya‘, ‘Paa’, ‘Kahaani‘ and ‘The Dirty Picture’ , Vidya Balan had become the poster woman for actress-led films. But then pandemic came and changed the entire scenario. Today even an Alia Bhatt led film like ‘Jigra‘ wasn’t able to pull the audience to the theatres. But Vidya is sure that times will change sooner than later.

In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the actress stated , “ It was easier before the pandemic, now it is a bit tough to mount a woman led film, which is unfortunate because I think we have gone a few steps back,.In 2008 when I did Ishqiya when there no real women led films being made ,there was only a Black ( Rani Mukherji starrer) that had been made. And then that wave slowly started and it gained momentum and a lot of these films were being made and they were even doing well. But now it is not that easy , I’m sure it is a phase and just how cyclical things are in nature, time will come once again sooner than later when we can tell the kind of stories we want to tell in the women led space.”
Coming to her latest film ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3‘, the film has now crossed Rs 225 crore mark, making it the biggest hit of her career. Talking about the huge numbers the film has been making , she said , “ When I read the script, I knew that the film would do well as I found the script fresh, entertaining and funny .. I was very excited for the film and what was more exciting was the fact that people were excited to see me back in the franchise . But I had no idea that the film would do these kind of numbers “
“ I’m not a number person, my husband Siddharth Roy Kapoor is and everyday after reaching office he would call and give me the number and after the fourth day he stopped calling as he realised that I’m just happy the film is doing so well. At the end of the day I want my films to do well and the money needs to come back into the system and industry “ she added.
