Kiran Rao reveals she barely tolerates Aamir Khan's 'lamba lectures': 'Not quite mansplaining, but close'

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, despite ending their 16-year marriage in 2021, have remained close collaborators and co-parents to their son, Azad Rao Khan. In a recent chat with Kareena Kapoor on What Women Want, Kiran opened up about her professional and personal dynamics with Aamir. She highlighted both the admirable and challenging aspects of working with him.
Kiran praised Aamir as a ‘100 percent guy,’ describing him as an ideal collaborator. “Once he likes something, he is entirely behind it. He is a 100 percent guy. If he doesn’t like it, he is really honest, but if he likes something, he will really do his best for it. He is literally one of the best people you can work with as a creative person,” she shared.
However, Kiran admitted to certain frustrations, especially his tendency to take time when making decisions. “He takes his time, and with everything. He needs things to arrive at a place when he can take his decision in the right way and that can be really frustrating because he has 20 things obviously that he’s doing, and you will factor in the top 3 or 4 but you are waiting on his time,” she noted.

Kiran also mentioned a quality of Aamir’s that she ‘barely tolerates’, which is his tendency to give lengthy explanations on topics. She humorously shared, “can go off and lecture. Like he will give certain lamba lectures about things sometimes and those, I don’t like. I mean, it’s not quite mansplaining, but coming close.”

The two continue to work together, with Aamir producing Kiran’s recent film Laapataa Ladies, India’s official Oscars contender this year. Their collaboration and mutual respect underscore the unique and amicable relationship they maintain post-divorce, both as co-parents and colleagues.
