Mumbai Indians ready with list of players to be retained, including Rohit Sharma: Report | Cricket News
Mumbai Indians (MI) finished last in the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and would hope to turn that around under their new head coach, Mahela Jayawardene.
Jayawardene has evolved from his role as MI’s Global Head of Cricket, where he used to oversee the frachisee’s expansion around the world across different leagues.
The former Sri Lanka captain will be helped by his ex-teammate and pacer Lasith Malinga, who is the team’s bowling coach.
Adding more muscle to the coaching staff, MI have re-united with former India pacer Paras Mhambrey, who will work with Malinga and be part of Jayawardene’s coaching staff.
Mhambrey will return to MI fresh from his stint as India’s bowling coach, which ended with the T20 World Cup triumph.
“My journey within the MI family has always been one of evolution. In 2017, the focus was on bringing together a talented group of individuals to play the best cricket ever and we did very well. Now to return, at the same moment in history, where we look ahead at the future and the opportunity to further strengthen the love of MI, build on the vision of the owners, and continue to add to the history of Mumbai Indians, is an exciting challenge I am looking forward to,” Jayawardene had said after his appointment.
