Ratan Tata’s final will to be executed by four trusted people
Mistry is a trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust, which collectively own 52% of Tata Sons. He was also a close associate of Ratan Tata and related to the late Cyrus Mistry, who was removed as Tata Sons chairman in 2016.
Khambatta has returned as a trustee to the two main trusts after a seven-year hiatus. Ratan Tata’s half-sisters have been active in philanthropy, and he had a closer relationship with the younger sister.
While specifics of the will remain confidential, Ratan Tata’s net worth was reported to be ₹7,900 crore, according to the Hurun India Rich List 2024.
In a related development, Business Standard reported that Ratan Tata’s successor, Noel Tata, has received unanimous approval to join the Tata Sons board as the third nominee from the Tata Trusts. The trustees met recently to select the 67-year-old half-brother of Ratan Tata for this role.
Tata Trusts, a major philanthropic entity of the Tata Group, holds 66% of the $165-billion conglomerate. Following Ratan Tata’s passing, Noel was appointed as the chairman of the Trusts. Tata Sons oversees a diverse portfolio of 30 firms, including Tata Consultancy Services, Taj Hotels, and Air India, and has partnerships with global brands such as Starbucks and Airbus.
