Rohit Shetty recalls re-shooting for Deepika Padukone's scenes in Chennai Express: 'In comedy especially, it takes a while to crack even established actors' |

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Chennai Express is one of the highest-grossing films and remains a favourite among many. Recently, director Rohit Shetty shared a behind-the-scenes story about Deepika. He explained that it took her four days to perfect the accent for her role, which is why some scenes had to be reshot.
In a conversation with casting director Mukesh Chhabra on Mashable India, Rohit recalled that at the time, Deepika had just come off a series of unsuccessful films, so she needed a few days to find her rhythm. He explained that it took some time for her to get the accent right, as comedy often takes longer to perfect, even for experienced actors.

After four days of shooting, she finally started to get the hang of it. He also mentioned that actors usually feel self-conscious about how they come across, but once they let go of those worries, their true performance shines.

He went on to explain that after four days of shooting, they felt they had finally found the right rhythm. Even Shah Rukh Khan noticed they were on the right track, so they decided to reshoot the scenes from the first four days. Once Deepika started enjoying the process, her performance reached a whole new level.

Chennai Express follows the story of Shah Rukh Khan, who travels from Mumbai to Rameshwaram and falls in love with Deepika Padukone, the daughter of a local don. During the filming of a fist-fight scene with Deepika, Shah Rukh injured his shoulder and had to undergo surgery.

The movie became one of the biggest blockbusters of that year. It was also a significant year for Deepika, as she starred in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Race 2, and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela alongside Ranveer Singh, marking their first film together.
Meanwhile, Rohit is currently celebrating the success of his recently released film Singham Again. The movie features an impressive cast, including Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor, and Tiger Shroff.
