Shahid Kapoor starrer ‘Ashwatthama’ has been put on a back-burner as budget goes over Rs 500 crore |
Shahid Kapoor‘s much-awaited mythological film, Ashwatthama: The Saga Continues, has encountered a setback. Due to budget constraints, the movie, which was set to bring the legendary warrior Ashwatthama‘s story to the screen, has been temporarily halted.
According to a report in Mid-Day, Shahid was set to star as the legendary warrior Ashwatthama in the highly anticipated mythological film Ashwatthama: The Saga Continues. However, the project has now been put on hold due to budget issues and logistical hurdles. Announced in March, the film was expected to be one of Amazon Prime Video’s biggest Indian productions, directed by Sachin B Ravi. Fans of the actor and the mythological genre will have to wait for the necessary funding to push the film forward.
The film Ashwatthama is being produced by Pooja Entertainment, led by Vashu Bhagnani, in collaboration with Amazon Studios. With an impressive budget of over Rs 500 crore, it is set to be a large-scale mythological action project.
The film Ashwatthama faced significant challenges due to its enormous scale and ambitious international shoot plans. Coordinating shoots across multiple countries proved difficult, and staying within the budget became a major concern. Additionally, the mounting debt of Pooja Entertainment added further complications, leading to the project being put on hold.
Shahid had already begun preparing physically for his role in Ashwatthama, which was planned to mix mythological themes with a present-day narrative inspired by the legendary warrior from the Mahabharata. Despite these efforts, the film’s production has hit a roadblock due to budget and logistical challenges.
The report also added that due to the current market conditions, studios are being more cautious about approving large-budget films. Projects like Ashwatthama come with significant risks, making it difficult to move forward without addressing financial and logistical concerns. This caution has contributed to the delays in the production of the film.
