Trishul 2: Makers react to the sequel; say they still own the rights to Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Trishul’ - Exclusive |

Ahead of Amitabh Bachchan’s birthday, producer Anand Pandit announced that he would be making ‘Trishul 2’. Being a fan of the original story of ‘Trishul’ Anand Pandit announced it as a tribute. However, when ETimes reached out to the makers of the 1978 released ‘Trishul,’ they said nobody had approached them for the movie’s rights.
While speaking to us exclusively, Shabbir Boxwala from Trimurti Films said that they still own the rights to ‘Trishul’ and no one has approached them seeking the same. While reacting to the news of the sequel, Shabbir added that the movie is only 46 years old, and to date, the rights are with them only.
This entire subject came to light after Anant Pandit’s recent announcement. He spoke about making ‘Trishul 2’ during a conversation with Mid-Day and quoted – “This will be my tribute to the man who began to influence my life even before he met me in person. ‘Trishul 2’ will narrate how life unfolded for Vijay after being accepted in the Gupta family. It would be fascinating to find out if he lived happily ever after with Geeta [Rakhee’s character] if his own family grew, and whether he was able to heal his wounds.”
Further, Pandit mentioned he has seen ‘Trishul almost 60 times, and the movie left a deep impact on him. The story that chronicled the life of a man who came from nothing and reached heights in the construction industry in the big city inspired him.
Directed by the late Yash Chopra, the original Trishul had Amitabh Bachchan as the headliner along with other celebrated stars Rakhee, Shahi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, and Hema Malini.
