LUCKNOW: The UP govt plans to develop Agra as a ‘solar city’ on the lines of Ayodhya, a state govt spokesperson said on Saturday.
In fact, the state govt has prepared a plan to develop all the districts of the Agra division as solar cities. Accordingly, streetlights and govt offices will be solar-powered.
In this series, 2000 solar streetlights are proposed to be installed in Agra city. Another 161 rooftop solar power plants of more than 25KW will be installed in govt offices. Solar panels will also be put up in newly constructed Sulabh toilets.
The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Agency (UPNEDA) Agra Division in-charge project officer NK Singh said efforts were being made to reduce electricity consumption and protect the environment. In the first phase, 600 solar streetlights and 50 mini masts will be installed in Agra city.
He said rooftop solar power plants were installed at 9 govt offices. In Mathura also, rooftop solar power plants were installed in 6 out of 315 govt offices.
“There is a plan to install rooftop solar power plants in 223 govt offices in Firozabad and 198 in Mainpuri,” Singh said.
The step aligns with PM Surya Ghar Yojana to promote power generation from solar energy in UP. Under this scheme, solar rooftop panels are being installed on the roofs of houses, the aim of which is to ensure the availability of electricity and reduce power bills.
Singh said a target has been set to install 1.3L rooftop solar power plants under the PM Surya Ghar Rooftop Solar Power Plant Scheme in Agra.
