Varun Tej is known for his acting chops and for his successful films. But over the past few years his films haven’t exactly set the box office on fire, be it ‘Operation Valentine’ or his recent film ‘Matka‘.

The film has been written and directed by Karuna Kumar and is based on the life of Ratan Khetri the dreaded gambler and gangster.The film right from its release day has been struggling in a big way where it collected only Rs 71 lakh. On second day the collection dropped to Rs 65 lakh and on third day the numbers jumped slightly to Rs 75 lakh, thus taking its three day collection to just Rs 2.11 crore. The film might just be able to cross Rs 3 crore mark by the end of Sunday but it is unlikely that the film might cross Rs 5 to 7 crore mark in its lifetime collection in India.
Given how Telugu films have worked wonders in the US market, but even there Matka is facing struggle as it has till now minted only nearly US $ 32000 (Rs 27 lakh) .
The film also starred Meenakshi Chaudhary and Nora Fatehi in leading roles.
Varun is nephew of actors Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan and actors like Ram Charan and Allu Arjun are his cousins.
