Women’s T20 World Cup: Fatima Sana to return home following father’s demise, to miss Australia clash | Cricket News
NEW DELHI: Pakistan captain Fatima Sana will not feature in the crucial Women’s T20 World Cup match against Australia and will return to Karachi following her father’s death, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Thursday.
The PCB stated they are arranging Fatima’s return on the first available flight after her father’s passing on Thursday morning.
“She will not be playing in the game against Australia on Friday,” an official said.
Vice-captain Muneeba Ali will take over the leadership for the match against Australia on Friday.
The 22-year-old Fatima Sana has been Pakistan’s standout performer in the tournament, excelling with both bat and ball.
Her absence will be significant as Pakistan need to win at least one of their remaining two matches to keep their semifinal hopes alive.
With two points from two games, Pakistan currently sit at the third spot in Group A, behind leaders Australia and India.
Pakistan are set to face New Zealand on Monday.
