Wipro, the IT services major, has reported a net decline of 502 employees in its workforce for the July to September 2024 period, according to the company’s Q2 results.

The latest decrease in Q2 brings Wipro’s total employee count to 233,889, down from 234,391 at the end of the preceding quarter.

This follows a slight increase in employee numbers during the quarter ended June 2024, breaking a trend of six consecutive quarters of decline up until March 2024.

The company, however, had announced earlier its plans to hire between 10,000 and 12,000 freshers in FY25, including both on-campus and off-campus recruitment initiatives.

Moreover, Wipro’s voluntary attrition rate for the quarter increased to 14.5% on a last-twelve-month (LTM) basis, compared to 14.1% in the previous quarter ending June 2024. This uptick in attrition highlights ongoing challenges in employee retention within the company.

On the other hand, India’s second-largest IT services firm, Infosys, reported a net addition of 2,456 employees for the July to September 2024 quarter, as stated in the company’s Q2 earnings report. This marks a notable turnaround compared to the previous quarter, where the firm experienced a net decline of 1,908 employees.

With this increase, Infosys’ total headcount rose to 317,788, up from 315,332 at the end of the previous quarter. This is the first time in seven quarters that the company has recorded an increase in its total workforce.
